Playing with Stencils - Donna Lewis

Playing with Stencils - Donna Lewis

Tania Ridgwell |

Hello crafty friends. Spring is here, and our garden is getting really excited! (I’ll be more excited when I finish the pre spring weeding!) I‘m back with another set of cards! This time, I’ve been ink blending, making a set of four balloon cards.
The stencil I used is called Lots and Lots of Balloons, and it comes from Paper Rose Studio. I’ve made four different designs, and I hope the layouts and techniques I’ve chosen inspire you to many more designs as well. There’s a video, if you’d like to watch it, below. In most exciting news, my YouTube channel has just passed 1000 followers since I recorded this video, thanks to a last push from my friend Michelle Lupton – go follow her if you don’t already!
I chose a rainbow of inks for my cards. You can find the colours I used linked below, but any rainbow you have will be gorgeous, I’m sure! For the first card I positioned the stencil, and blended from blue at the top to pink at the bottom. I then moved the stencil, and repeated the process, before moving it again and blending for a third time. The sentiment for this card is called Chunky Happy Birthday.
The second card below has the whole rainbow blended, but just one this time. Leaving the stencil in place, I then scraped Pink and Main Glossy Gel over the whole card panel with an EZ Spreader from Pink and Main. This gave the card a lovely sheen that I couldn’t pick up with the camera, but have been able to capture in the video. The sentiment for this card comes from a Paper Rose set called Big Sentiments 1.0. I cut the banner using one of the Banner Trio Dies, also from Paper Rose Studio
Next, I masked off a single balloon to make my own designs, starting with this vertical column of balloons. The Sentiment comes from a newish stamp set from Paper Rose Studio called Birthday Wishes, along with a highly cropped sentiment from the Rainbow Poppies Sentiment set.
Finally, I got my bravery on and drew some strings on my last card. I double (triple) mounted the panel with the balloons and added a sentiment from the brand new Happy Birthday Sentiment Sheets.
That’s all for today’s cards. I hope that you are having a super day, and that you’re finding reasons to celebrate. Until next time…
Blessings,
Donna
