Beautiful Orchids - Donna Lewis

Beautiful Orchids - Donna Lewis

Tania Ridgwell |

Sometimes, (not often, truth be told- I’m my own worst critic!) I make a card that I LOVE!!!!! This is that card.
This card used a mix of ink blending and Copic colouring techniques, and I have made a video of the making process, which you can see below. Otherwise, read on, and the rest of the details, as well as the supplies used will be under the video.
I used the Orchid Bloom stamp from Paper Rose Studio as the focal point of the card. I wanted to play around with creating pale petals with deep, rich centres, so I stamped the image with Memento Tuxedo Black ink using my MISTI stamping platform, and coloured the orchids with my Copic Markers. I then cut around the image with scissors, leaving a small white border.
Next I moved on to creating the background. I used one of Paper Rose Studio’s Square card bases, and masked off a border using a thin washi tape – one that I know isn’t too sticky, so it doesn’t damage my paper. I then ink blended using Altenew Azurite ink and Dusty Sage ink from Simon Says Stamp. I kept in mind where the orchids and also the sentiment would go, so that that orchids would pop against a darker background, but the sentiment would be easily visible on the lighter Dusty Sage.
Once the blending was done, I stamped my sentiment which comes from Paper Rose Studio’s Daisy Days Stamp set in Versafine Onyx Black ink. I then covered the sentiment with a scrap of paper and generously spattered the whole panel with white gouache mixed with a little water.
I repeated the ink blending and gouache spatter on one of the Square Envelopes that match the cards, to make a co-ordinating envelope. I’m trying to do this more lately, and the envelopes make me happy!
Until next time, stay safe, especially in all the rain that my Australian friends are having.
Blessings
Donna
